Drakes Bay Oysters are raised in the finest water quality of any California growing region. A deep-water upwelling just off the coast of Drake’s Bay provides cool, nutrient rich water year-round to Drake’s Estero. Located in Point Reyes National Seashore, this uniquely pristine water produces what are recognized as among the finest oysters in the world. Now in their fourth generation of farming, the Lunny family of Drakes Bay Family Farms is committed to raising and delivering locally grown, environmentally sustainable foods. BeauSoleil Oysters are produced along the Atlantic coast, at the northern boundary of the species' natural distribution where the water is cold and clean. La Maison BeauSoleil is located in New Brunswick, Canada. The term BeauSoleil (Beautiful Sun) reflects the quality of the environment at production sites that are located in sparsely-populated areas along the Atlantic Coast. We also carry Wareham Oysters, Island Creeks, and Wellfleets from Massachusetts and Blue Point Oysters from Chesapeake Bay. Farm Raised Oysters filter their food right out of the sea water-- farming them requires no additional feed. Oyster farms cause minimal environmental impact and actually act as aquatic filters. Healthy oysters consume algae and other water-borne nutrients--each oyster filters up to five liters of water per hour. For this reason farmed oysters make the Seafood Watch “Best Choices” listing.
