Wild Troll-Caught King Salmon

The Wild California King Salmon Trolling season usually begins May 1st, and continues through September. Our Kings are always caught with hook and line in the open ocean- never using nets and never in rivers. With multiple receiving locations along the California coast, our boats are able to follow the salmon as they feed or as areas open to fishing. Our fresh wild salmon are bled and gutted when landed, and quickly placed in insulated bins of slush ice from catch time until packed for delivery to the airport. For availability out of season, a portion of the catch is 'Frozen at Sea'- bled, gutted, then glazed and blast frozen within moments after they are caught. As much as eighty percent of the salmon that we land at Pier 33 are sold outside of San Francisco via air freight.

California is the Leading Producer of troll-caught (hook-and-line) King Salmon on the Pacific Coast. Our 'Chinooks' are the largest, and most prized, of the five species of Pacific salmon. The California catch is mainly comprised of Sacramento River Fall-Run Kings, which continue to have abundant returns year after year due to decades of work undertaken by fishermen to conserve and enhance salmon runs. Agriculture, hydropower, and development are constant competitors for salmon habitat. Eating Wild California King salmon ensures they will have a healthy and robust future--both as delicious food and in our landscapes. The Monterey Bay Aquarium agrees-they recently listed California King Salmon as a 'best choice" on their Seafood Watch list.

Medical Experts & Practitioners confirm that foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids reduce the risk of cardiac arrest, improve cognitive function and reduce depression. The USDA recently reported that Wild California King salmon has 29.4% more omega 3 fatty acids than previously reported. And our Kings are fresher because they're caught locally off the California coast. The high oil content adds to its natural robust flavor and deep coloring, making California Salmon a favorite among professional chefs.

In addition to the California Salmon fishery, we like to promote our local fisheries for species including halibut, black cod, sand dab, and petrale sole. Most of the boats that fish for us are independent operators that deliver through the season at Pier 33 on the San Francisco waterfront.

Wild California King Salmon Season

  • Calendar season: May 1-September 30 (approx. dates).
  • Sizes: Small, Medium, Large (approx: 7-11 lbs, 11-15 lbs, 15-lbs and up)
  • Princess cut (Head-On, Gilled & Gutted).
  • Frozen to specifications on request.
  • Fresh Packed in 100 lb. wetlock boxes, insulated w/ polyliners and Gelpacks, labeled and strapped.
